Austin, Texas - Bill (William John) Corrigan, devoted husband, father and son, punk rock enthusiast, lifelong learner, marathon runner, mountain climber, sailor and teller of stories, died peacefully on May 27th, 2025 in Austin, Texas. He is loved and admired by so many whose lives he touched. Bill is survived by his dog Romeo, wife Lucia Athens, children Kristina & Rebecca Corrigan & Chloe Collyer, Mother Judy, Siblings Mark (Ingrid), Ann (Gary), Mary (John), Kathleen (Dan), Matthew, Patricia, Jennifer and many nieces and nephews.
Bill's career as an Instructional Designer meant that he assisted countless professionals in multiple disciplines to share their knowledge using technology, with a focus on user experience and accessibility for all. He also volunteered for over ten years with the SXSW transportation team, eventually becoming crew chief.
Bill's zest for life and off-kilter humor brought joy to so many around him. He was a longtime member of zany running group Hashhouse Harriers, who self-refer as "Drinkers with a Running Problem." For more info about the group in Austin, see the ATX Explained episode. https://www.kut.org/atxplained Why are people dropping flour in weird patterns around Austin?
Bill set a goal to complete all the so-called "World Majors" marathons, competing in Berlin, London, Boston, Chicago, New York, as well as many other less sought-after but equally grueling races. His life and running goals were interrupted by an ALS diagnosis. Bill came up with his own interpretation of what ALS stands for: Adaptive LifeStyle. Once he could no longer run or walk, he continued racing using wheelchairs or recumbent hand-crank bicycles.
Bill became an advocate for ALS research, raising tens of thousands of dollars for the cause. He inspired many others with his fearless approach and positive attitude, appearing on several podcasts which can be found here.

Bill's Irish roots meant he wasn't shy to express himself visually and verbally. He played a mean air guitar and loved telling tall tales over a cold IPA. His warm smile helped him make friends wherever he went, as he was always up for an adventure.
Bill is beloved by many in the Cleveland, Austin, and Seattle communities. The family would like to thank Beacon Hospice (Nurse Natalie Irvin), and Accent Home Healthcare (Lasana Kamara and Shaylynn). Donations in his honor can be made to the Fundraiser entitled Keep Running Through the Tape at fundraise.als.net/billfightsals
